This is our collection
of websites in the field of chemistry that we have
identified as having content and relevance to the college or
university student studying the subject of chemistry, These
sites are not lists of links. Instead they contain data,
tutorials and background information that will serve to
assist the understanding of the subject as well as providing
ideas for research projects and papers. For our collection
of general academic resources which may contain chemistry
related materials as well as those from other subjects

3D Molecules
Browse through a large collection of
3D chemical structures. The molecules are separated in
five different categories, natural, inorganics,
pharmaceuticals, biomolecules and various molecules.
ChemCases.com
ChemCases.com shows how the chemistry of food relieves
our hunger, the chemistry of water and Gatorade and soft
drinks and beer and wine takes the edge off our thirst. It
shows how our drugs and medications work by chemical
reactions; it is the chemistry of fuels that powers what we
drive and fly; it is chemistry that gives electricity from
nuclear and more traditional power sources; chemical
synthesis provides our plastics. And it is the complexities
of chemistry that converts useful materials into pollutants,
makes some users of alcohol into abusers and addicts some of
us to innocent looking but destructive white powders.
The Chemical Heritage Foundation
The Chemical Heritage Foundation serves the community of
the chemical and molecular sciences, and the wider public,
by treasuring the past, educating the present, and inspiring
the future. This site offers many tools for the researcher,
the student, and those who want to explore and discover how
the chemical and molecular sciences have changed the world
in which we live.
Chemistry Guide
Chemistry Guide is a comprehensive collection of
annotated links for chemists and researchers involved in
organic, biochemical, computational, medicinal and/or other
chemistry research.
ChemWeb.com
ChemWeb.com was launched in April 1997. It is now the
largest online chemical community in the world. ChemWeb.com
is a unique resource which combines a huge range of
information for those in research chemistry, the chemicals
industries and related disciplines. Membership is completely
free.ChemWeb.com members can access over 350 journals
and 15 databases from a variety of publishers. A number of
databases offer structure-based searching and manipulation
of molecular structures.
General Chemistry Online
General Chemistry Online is the jumping off point, or
review landing pad, for all things chemistry-related.
Whether you're a student of the chemical sciences looking
for Avogadro's number, a chem novice looking to be convinced
of the importance of studying the elements, or just
wondering what the heck hair spray is made of, you've come
to the right place. General Chemistry Online covers the
basics and beyond, including a huge FAQ section on all
things chemical, an exam survival guide and a library of
common compounds. Be sure to visit the "Toolbox" to download
the JavaScript pop-up periodic table.
- Images representing atomic orbitals and molecular
orbitals
- Animated plots of wave functions
- Animated plots of electron density
- "Dot-density" plots of electron density
- Plots of radial distribution functions
Organic Chemistry Portal
The
Organic Chemistry Portal offers an overview of recent
topics, interesting reactions, and information on the most
important chemicals.
Organic Chemistry Practice Problems
Organic Chemistry
Practice Problems from Michigan State University are
sorted by generally useful, useful for students in year long
courses and useful for chem majors and/or honors students.
Periodic Table
Very
good
flash based periodic table
and also here.
Chemical data for individual
elements can be obtained by following the data link from the
web page belonging to that element.
Reciprocal Net
The
Reciprocal Net project will construct and deploy a
distributed, open, extensible digital collection of
molecular structures. Associated with the collection will be
software tools for visualizing, interacting with, and
rendering printable images of the contents; software for the
automated conversion of local database representations into
standard formats which can be globally shared; tools and
components for constructing educational modules based on the
collection; and examples of such modules as the beginning of
a public repository for educational materials based on the
collection. The contents of this collection will come
principally from structures contributed by participating
crystallography laboratories, thus providing a means for
teachers, students, and the general public to connect better
with current chemistry research.
Sciencebase.com
Sciencebase.com is the place to be for reactive science
communication on the web, and it's free. Sciencebase.com is
a portal to science news and feature articles in biology,
chemistry, physics and other areas of scientific discovery
researched and written by chemist David Bradley for numerous
publications. Many other science news sites simply serve up
untouched press releases, sciencebase delves deeper and
doesn't ignore the significant figures!
Sheffield ChemPuter
University of Sheffield's
ChemPuter, a set of simple interactive calculators for
chemistry on the World-Wide Web. The Sheffield ChemPuter is
a demonstration of WebStar/AppleEvents/SuperCard for the
Macintosh.
The Wooden Periodic Table
The Wooden Periodic Table is a real wooden table and a
starting point for the collecting and describing of the
elements. This is a fun site to visit and a surprisingly
informative look at the elements. The photo album puts a
"face" on the elements. |
